Neighbourhood Policing?
“Neighbourhood Policing” is a Home Office led initiative that builds on the
work of the National Reassurance Policing pilot project.
The Government has pledged to provide every community in the country with its
own dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Team by 2008 (earlier in London),
beginning with a Pathfinder pilot site in each police force area.
SNTs are multi-agency teams, possibly co-located, that are able to work
together on the basis of shared information and a commitment to tackle local
crime, grime and disorder issues. Teams consist of local Police Officers
(Police Constables, Special Constables and Police Community Support Officers
(PCSOs), and others such as Anti-Social Behaviour specialists; Young People's
Service staff etc.
The teams are being implemented and managed through the police 43 forces. These
are organised into regions, each of which has a Field Officer who is helping to
co-ordinate and implement.
At Spark we have updated our systems so that they can help with SNTs. They
provide a way for everyone working in a team to have access to an online
problem solving resource for all. They have access to all the work their team,
and other teams in their area, are doing.
